Op 11 december reisden twee van onze heren af naar Amsterdam om daar te rijden in het NSK Marathon. En niet zonder verdienste, met een tweede plek in de heren B categorie reisde Rik Hoekstra weer terug naar huis. Hugo Hulleman ging ervandoor met de 8^ste plek. Gefeliciteerd mannen met deze prestatie!

De opkomst voor de tweede Interne Isis Wedstrijd was weer hoog op 13 december. Iedereen heeft goed hun best gedaan ondanks de kou en het stroeve ijs. Er waren een paar prachtige val pareltjes door Lorenzo en Steven vastgelegd, maar ook nieuwe PR’s waaronder die voor Marijn. Bedankt voor het komen en dankjewel wedstrijdcommissie voor het organiseren!

De TU/e organiseerde in de twee weken voor de kerstvakantie de WinterTU/er Village: een kleine kerstmarkt in de hal van het Atlas gebouw. En wat past er nu niet beter bij kerst dan schaatsen? E.S.S.V. Isis was daarom van de partij in de Glühwein Stübe op 14 december. Hier werd er chocolademelk met slagroom verkocht en glühwein ingeschonken. Alle leden die langskwamen kregen een drankje gratis en sloten aan bij de kerstborrel. De Glühwein Stübe zelf was feestelijk versierd met Friese onderbinders, vlaggetjes, lichtjes en de grote mooie Isis vlag.

Naast drankjes was er een photobooth waar je je kerstkaartfoto kon laten maken. Meerdere kermtmannen, kerstmoeders en rendieren holden voorbij. Voornamelijk Tade en Menno waren blij met de ultieme kerstfoto. De avond werd gesloten door in de Cinema Hall de eerste natuurijs marathon van het jaar te kijken en met een pils in Hubble.  

Softijs heeft 17 & 18 december het NSK Sprint georganiseerd waar maar liefst 13 Isisianen aan mee deden. Er werd op deze wedstrijd fanatiek geschaatst en probeerde iedereen ondanks het slechte ijs toch een goede tijd neer te zetten. Het enige probleem was dat de wedstrijd niet de hoogste prioriteit had dit weekend, want we konden weer schaatsen op natuurijs! Dit hielp natuurlijk niet mee met de tijden en de alertheid op wanneer je nou ook alweer moest starten. Uiteindelijk is toch nog onze eigen Colin Schrijver eerste geworden bij de mannen en onze overgekochte Emma Hulshof eerst bij de vrouwen.

Tijdens de Van Lint Week van het SSC hebben we met een team fanatieke Isisianen geprobeerd te bewijzen dat schaatsers de beste allround sporters zijn. De eerste activiteit op 19 december was Kinball. Het doel was om de eer van Isis en een 1,2 meter grootte bal hoog te houden. Er zat veel tijd tussen de potjes waardoor er genoeg tijd was om te genieten van een vers getapt pilsje. Desondanks zijn we uiteindelijk, zonder dat we het door hadden, in de finale beland. Door de kerstborrel heeft ons kampioenen team zich uiteindelijk moeten afmelden. Nadat de andere teams vermoeid van het veld kwamen had ons sterrenteam nog energie over en hebben ze een vriendschappelijk potje Just Dance gespeeld. Het niveau was beduidend hoger dan de deelnemers van het just-dance toernooi ernaast. Jammer genoeg deden onze topsporters daar niet aan mee.

De laatste activiteit op 21 december van de Van Lint week was Goalball waarbij ons team geblinddoekt een geluid makende bal moest tegenhouden. De andere teams konden jammer genoeg beter luisteren en hiermee zijn we niet in de finale beland.
 

Om de laatste training (op 22 december) van het jaar af te sluiten mocht het 54^ste bestuur veel leden ontvangen met in een mooie kersttrui! Sommigen waren creatief en hadden zelfs kerstmutsen aan hun helmen vastgemaakt. Daarnaast deelde het bestuur kerstkaarten uit. Als je deze nog niet hebt ontvangen: niet getreurd, ze worden snel genoeg bij je thuis bezorgd of bij de volgende training gegeven!

Na de training was het tijd voor de Bapas avond in ‘t Schaatshuijs. Verschillende speciaal bieren werden ingeschonken en hier en daar borrelvoedsel geserveerd. Onze oud bestuursleden kregen het voor mekaar dat er gratis bittergarnituur werd uitgedeeld door de voorzitter van onze zustervereniging de Pinguïns. Anita deelde zoveel kerstmutsen uit, dat heel de bar rood kleurde. DJ Ron draaide fanatiek nummers en iedereen danste vrolijk mee na wat biertje op te hebben. Er ontstond een dance battle tussen onze voorzitter en (wederom) de voorzitter van de Pinguïns. Ik kon concluderen dat wij ze wel goed hebben ingemaakt. Een super leuke avond die weer plaats zal vinden op 12 januari tijdens de nieuwjaarsborrel!

Dear members,

Firstly: Happy New Year! May we (nature) skate a lot and crush PRs! And that will be all right, because the third Internal Isis Competition is also coming up. The fanatics at training camp in Collalbo are already preparing for the competitions this January. This is done on the beautiful ice rink Ritten Arena. Did you know that the ice rink in Eindhoven is older than the ice rink in Collalbo? The ice rink was opened in 1970 while the Italian ice rink was opened in 1989. Well-known Dutch people such as Thomas Krol, Sven Kramer and Ireen Wüst have track records here.

The PR Commissioner doubts that these will now be broken by any of the 18 Isisians, but progress is being made! Just like for the people who now continue to train during the Christmas holidays. A few weeks ago, two gentlemen travelled to Amsterdam to ride in the NSK Marathon. And not without merit, with a second place in the men's B category for Rik Hoekstra. Hugo Hulleman took off with the 8th place. Congratulations for this achievement!

The turnout for the second Internal Isis Competition was again high. Despite the cold and the stiff ice, everyone did their best. There were a few beautiful fall gems recorded by Lorenzo and Steven, but also new PRs were ridden including the one for Marijn. Thank you for coming and thank you competition committee for organizing!

In the two weeks before the Christmas holidays, TU/e ​​organized the WinterTU/er Village: a small Christmas market in the hall of the Atlas building. And what doesn't fit better with Christmas than ice skating? E.S.S.V. Isis was therefore present in the Glühwein Stübe. Here chocolate milk with whipped cream was sold and mulled wine was served. All members who came by received a drink for free and joined the Christmas party. The Glühwein Stübe itself was festively decorated with Frisian ties, flags, lights and the large beautiful Isis flag.

In addition to drinks, there was a photobooth where you could have your Christmas card photo taken. Several Santas, Christmas mothers and reindeer came by. Especially Tade and Menno were happy with their ultimate Christmas photo. The evening was concluded by watching the first natural ice marathon of the year in the Cinema Hall and with a beer in Hubble.

Softijs organized the NSK Sprint this year, in which no less than 13 Isisians participated. This competition was skated fanatically and everyone tried to set a good time despite the bad ice. The only problem was that the competition was not the top priority this weekend, because we were able to skate on nature ice again! Of course, this did not help with the times and the alertness to when you had to start again. In the end, our own Colin Schrijver finished first among the men and Emma Hulshof was first among the women.

During the Van Lint Week of the SSC, we tried to prove with a team of our best Isisians that skaters are the best all-round athletes. The first activity we participated in was Kinball. The goal was to uphold the honour of Isis and a 1.2 meter ball. There was a lot of time between the games, so there was enough time to enjoy a freshly tapped beer. Nevertheless, we ended up in the final without realizing it. Due to the Christmas party, our champions team eventually had to cancel. After the other teams came off the field tired, our star team still had energy left and they played a friendly game of Just Dance. The level was significantly higher than the participants of the just-dance tournament next door. Unfortunately, our top athletes did not participate in that game.

The last activity of the Van Lint week was Goalball, in which our team had to stop a noise-making ball while blindfolded. Unfortunately, the other teams could listen better and we didn't end up in the final. Nevertheless, a nice sporty week!

To close the last training of the year, the 54th board welcomed many members with a beautiful Christmas sweater! Some were creative and even had Santa hats strapped to their helmets. In addition, the board distributed Christmas cards. If you haven't received these yet: don't worry, they will be delivered to your home soon enough or given to you at the next training!

After the training it was time for the Bapas evening in 't Schaatshuijs. Various special beers were poured and snacks were served here and there. Our former board members managed to get free snacks distributed by the chairman of our sister association de Penguins. Anita handed out so many Christmas hats that the whole bar turned red. DJ Ron fanatically played songs and everyone happily danced along after having a few beers. A dance battle ensued between our chairman and (again) the chairman of the Penguins. I could conclude that we have preserved them well. A super fun evening that will take place again on the 12^th of January during the New Year's drink!
