On July 2nd, just before the summer holidays, the official board handover took place. Since it wasn’t possible to form a completely new board, a “Emergency” board was appointed. They are only handling the essential tasks of the board — writing newsletters isn’t one of them 😉.

They are supported by a few people who have taken on specific tasks, as well as by the committees, which are doing a bit extra this year. The board is constituted as follows:

Secretary – Arthur Zijlstra
Treasurer – Bart Oudkerk (until the half General Assembly)
Treasurer – Ivar de Boer (from the half General Assembly onward)

They hope to transition back to a full board in April.

On October 7th, the 11th lustrum of E.S.S.V. Isis came to a close. It was an incredibly fun anniversary year with lots of great activities. In the final months of the year, the lustrum committee certainly didn’t sit still and organized several more enjoyable events.

On June 7th, the ultimate of all tours took place: the Elfbierentocht (“Eleven Beers Tour”). Participants cycled along 11 cafés in Eindhoven — from iconic Isis locations to notorious local bars. These were, in order: Hubble, De Cyklist, 100 Watt, Het Rozenknopje, Café Casino, Ron’s Garage, Café de Valk, Café Wilhelmina, Het Ketelhuis, The Tipsy Duck, and The Amazing. Not everyone managed to fill up their stamp card, and not everyone remembers how the last stamp was earned, but everyone had a great afternoon. A special thanks goes to Ron — it was great to drop by and share a beer together!
 

Elfbierentocht & Anniversary Reception
 

On September 10th, the mystery activity was on the agenda. This turned out to be a dropping around Eindhoven. Participants were given only a map with clues to reach the final location. The clues turned out to be a bit too clear, as most groups found the first checkpoint rather quickly. There, Lars and Cas were waiting to play a round of flunkyball. In the end, every group made it to the finish impressively fast, and the evening ended on a cheerful note with drinks.

After some hiccups in the organization, the alumni dinner finally took place on September 20th. A large group of former members attended — especially many from before the year 2000 were enthusiastic to join. Everyone enjoyed a cozy dinner at Hubble and chatted and shared stories well into the night. It was a wonderful evening, and hopefully there will be another opportunity in five years!

The year concluded with a reception. The idea was to hand out the almanac during this event. However, the delivery arrived a day late, which was a bit of a disappointment. The almanac has since been well received and contains many great stories from the past five years of Isis. On behalf of the lustrum committee, I’d like to thank everyone for their enthusiasm and participation in all the activities. On to the 60th!

Isis stays active all year round — even when it’s too warm to skate. Although attendance at the dryland training sessions was a bit disappointing this past summer, many Isis members went all out on their bikes! The cycling camp at the end of May in the Belgian Ardennes was once again fully booked, and after the holidays, an Isis time trial was organized.

Members also enjoyed Anja’s apple pie during the Martien Classic, and several inline skating sessions took place on the track in Schijndel. Unfortunately, all these efforts didn’t result in winning the NSSU zomercup this time. While the victory has often gone our way in the past, it was DSV de Skeuvel from Enschede who came out on top this year.
 

At the end of the summer holidays, Isis once again ventured abroad. This time it wasn’t a SkeeWieKa (skating and cycling camp), but a summer trip to the French Alps. For a week, Isis members braved the mountains by bike and on foot. The result was plenty of beautiful pictures of mountain peaks — and of tired faces after long climbs.

It was clear that a lot of altitude had been conquered during the trip, because not everything survived the camp. The indestructible Volvo belonging to Tade — which had already become legendary during the first SkeeWieKa for its supposed invincibility — finally gave up. The mechanic took one look at the odometer and immediately threw in the towel. The Volvo was left parked in France, with Tade planning to return later with a trailer to collect it. But then a miracle happened: when he came back, the Volvo started right up again!

Looking back, it was a trip full of fun and sportsmanship. Until next year!
 

 

Isis was full of enthusiasm once again during the Introduction Week! At the Limbopad, the campus market, and during the workshops, the intro committee did their best to convince new students to join our wonderful association. Isis was also well represented at the Wordlid (“Become a Member”) party. Although not many new members were recruited that evening, it was still a great time!

It was noticeable that this year’s Introduction Week attracted fewer new students than in previous years. Fortunately, plenty of newcomers showed up for the introductory training sessions. Kudos to the intro committee for a fun and successful week!
 

Over the past half year, many activities have been organized by Isis. Members participated in tournaments such as the NSSK Football Tournament and the Hajraa Tournament. Unfortunately, Isis couldn’t quite impress this time, and the results were disappointing. Participation is more important than winning… right?

The Activities Committee (AK) certainly didn’t sit still either. Just before the summer holidays, the End-of-Year Barbecue took place, during which the club championship medals were awarded. There was volleyball, ice skating in Tilburg, an ice cream tour on inline skates, and plenty of monthly drinks. So, it definitely hasn’t been boring — and it doesn’t look like it will be anytime soon!
 

October 14th marked the first skating training of the season, officially kicking off the skating season. There have been some changes in the coaching staff, but there are still five training groups. Full of ambition — whether chasing personal records, aiming to win the Stoempersbokaal, competing in the Super Prestige ranking, or just having fun — Isis members hit the ice once again. Every Tuesday and Thursday, they give it their all to impress the coaches, before heading off to "Choco pilsen" at ’t Schaetshuys.

 

With the First Races in Nijmegen on November 2nd, the competition season has officially started for most students. There will be plenty of opportunities to race in the coming months. Below is an overview of all the competitions where Isis members can participate — from NSK’s to IIW’s. Hopefully, I’ll see you all at one of these events this season, because they’re always a lot of fun, no matter where they are!

Op 2 juli, vlak voor de zomervakantie, is er officieel van bestuur gewisseld. Doordat er geen volledig nieuw bestuur gevormd kon worden is er gewisseld naar een "Nood"-bestuur. Zij doen alleen de essentiële taken van het bestuur. Daar hoort het schrijven van nieuwsbrieven niet bij 😉.

Ze worden ondersteund door wat mensen die bepaalden taken op zich nemen en de commissies die net wat meer doen dit jaar. Ze zijn als volgt geconstitueerd:

Ze hopen in april weer te kunnen wisselen naar een volledig bestuur.

Op 7 oktober is het 11e lustrum van E.S.S.V. Isis afgesloten. Het was een enorm leuk lustrum jaar met veel leuke activiteiten. In de laatste maanden van het jaar heeft de lustrumcommissie zeker niet stilgezeten en nog een aantal leuke activiteiten opgezet.

7 Juni was de tocht der tochten gepland: de elfbierentocht. Er werd gefiets langs 11 cafés in Eindhoven, van iconische Isis locties tot beruchte Eindhovense cafés. Dit waren achtereenvolgend: Hubble, de Cyklist, 100 Watt, het Rozenknopje, Café Casino, Ron's garage, Café de Valk, Café Wilhelmina, het Ketelhuis, de Tipsy Duck en de Amazing. Niet iedereen heeft de stempelkaart vol kunnen krijgen en niet iedereen weet meer hoe de laatste stempel behaald is, maar iedereen heeft een leuke middag gehad. We willen Ron speciaal nog bedanken, het was erg leuk om even langs te mogen komen en gezellig een biertje te doen.
 

Elfbierentocht & Dies receptie
 

Op 10 september stond de mystery activiteit op de planning. Dit was een dropping rond Eindhoven. De deelnemers kregen alleen een kaart met aanwijzingen tegen om de eindlocatie te behalen. Deze aanwijzingen bleken iets te duidelijk te zijn, want de eerste tussenstop was al snel gevonden door de meeste groepjes. Daar stonden Lars en Cas te wachten om een potje flunkybal mee te spelen. Uiteindelijk is ieder groepje binnen een knappe tijd binnengekomen. De avond werd gezellig afgesloten met een drankje.

Na wat gerommel in de organisatie heeft op 20 september het oud-leden diner plaatsgevonden. Een grote groep oud-leden is gekomen, voornamelijk van de jaren voor 2000 was er veel animo. Er is gezellig gegeten bij Hubble en tot in de late uurtjes nog gezellig gebabbeld en verhalen gedeeld. Enorm gezellig en hopelijk is er over 5 jaar weer een mogelijkheid!

Het jaar werd afgesloten met een receptie. Het idee was dat op deze receptie de almanak werd uitgereikt. Echter, was de levering een dag te laat, wat toch wel een domper was. De almanak is daarna goed ontvangen en bevat veel leuke verhalen van de afgelopen vijf Isis jaren. Namens de lustrum commissie wil ik iedereen enorm bedanken voor het enthausiasme waarmee de activiteiten zijn bijgewoond. Op naar de 60!

 

Isis is het hele jaar door actief, zo ook als het te warm is om te schaatsen. Hoewel de opkomst op de droogtrainingen afgelopen zomer een beetje tegenviel, trokken veel Isisianen er vol op uit op de fiets! Het wielerkamp eind mei naar de Belgische Ardennen zat weer goed vol en er is na de vakantie zelfs een Isis tijdrit georganiseerd. Er is genoten van appelgebak van Anja tijdens de Martien Classic en er is een aantal keer geskeelerd op de baan in Schijndel. Al deze inspanningen werden jammer genoeg niet bekroond met het winnen van de NSSU zomercup. Waar het in de geschiedenis vaak onze kant op is gevallen, trok DSV de Skeuvel uit Enschede dit keer aan het langste eind.
 

Aan het eind van de zomervakantie trok Isis weer het buitenland in. Dit keer was het geen SkeeWieKa (skeeler en wielerkamp) maar een zomerreis naar de Franse alpen. Een week lang trotseerden Isisianen de bergen met de fiets en op de voet. Het leverde veel mooie plaatjes op van bergtoppen en vermoeide kopjes na een lange klim.

Het was te merken dat er veel hoogteverschil is getrotseerd tijdens het kamp, want niet alles heeft het kamp overleeft. De onverwoestbare Volvo van Tade, die legende is geworden op het eerste SkeeWieKa om zijn onverwoestbaarheid, had het begeven. De monteur keek op de teller en gaf het spontaan op. De Volvo is geparkeerd in Frankrijk en Tade zou later terugkomen om de auto op te halen met een trailer. Er was alleen een wonder gebeurt: de Volvo deed het weer bij terugkomst!

Er kan terug gekeken worden op een reis vol plezier en sportiviteit. Tot volgend jaar!
 

 

Isis stond vol enthousiasme weer op de intro week! Op het Limbopad, de campus markt en tijdens de workshops heeft de introcommissie geprobeerd om nieuwe studenten te overtuigen van onze leuke vereniging! Daarnaast was Isis goed vertegenwoordigd op het Wordlid-feest. Hoewel er op deze avond misschien niet zoveel nieuwe leden gestrict zijn, was het wel heel gezellig!

Het was te merken dat de intro week minder druk bezocht werd door nieuwe studenten dan voorgaande jaren. Maar, gelukkig zijn er genoeg kiddo's naar de introductie trainingen gekomen. Kudo's naar de introcommissie voor de succesvolle en gezellige week!
 

Er zijn het afgelopen half jaar veel activiteiten georganisseerd door Isis. Er is meegedaan aan toernooien zoals het NSSK Voetbal en het Hajraa-toernooi. Jammer genoeg kon Isis niet overtuigen en vielen de resultaten tegen. Meedoen is belangrijker dan winnen.......toch?

Het AK heeft verder zeker niet stilgezeten. Vlak voor de zomervakantie is de Eindejaarsbarbecue geweest, waar de clubkampioenschap-medailles zijn uitgereikt. Er is gevolleybald, geschaatst in Tilburg, een ijsjestocht op skeelers en veel maandelijkse borrels hebben plaatsgevonden. Saai is het dus niet geweest en zal het ook niet snel worden!
 

14 Oktober was de eerste schaatstraining en daarmee de start van het schaatsseizoen. Er is wat gewisseld in de trainersstaf maar er zijn nog steeds 5 trainingsgroepen. Vol ambities over PR's rijden, het winnen van de Stoempersbokaal, het Super Prestige klassement of gewoon om lol te hebben, zijn de Isis leden weer het ijs opgegaan. Iedere dinsdag en donderdag halen ze weer alles uit te de kast om indruk te maken op de trainers om daarna te gaan choco-pilsen in 't Schaetshuys. 

Met de First Races in Nijmegen op 2 November is ook het wedstrijd seizoen voor de meeste studenten van start gegaan. Er is de komende maanden genoeg om te rijden. Hieronder staan alle wedstrijden waar Isis leden kunnen deelnemen: van NSK's tot IIW's. Hopelijk zie ik jullie allemaal komend seizoen tijdens één van deze evenementen, want het is altijd enorm gezellig, waar dan ook!
